Artist’s Statement

My artwork consists of representational and non-representational organic wire sculpture designed to fit the southwest climate, as well as complement the rugged yet beautiful southwestern atmosphere. Some sculptures are designed to be displayed outdoors and some can be displayed indoors and out. I gravitate to wire as a medium because of its flexibility, it has organic and industrial qualities and is relatively inexpensive (I use a lot of wire). The rust element lends itself well to the southwest mood while the un-rusted works offer a modern industrial feel.

I have an abbreviated art education. I took many classes in High School. I then attended the University of New Mexico and the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute I attended 2-D and 3-D design, drawing and ceramic sculpture classes. I didn’t find my niche until 1994 when I discovered wire as a medium. I have always been creative, but only in the last five years have I become serious about my artwork. What I create covers the spectrum of art forms, from craft oriented pieces to high end large scale sculpture. Wire bowls, crosses, brooches, flower pockets and candle holders are some examples of the “craft” type work I do. I also make small scale sculptural wire figures posed in positions of daily activities which often have a humorous socio-commentary twist to them.
